NY Times opinion piece on "the white messiah" myth

A friend of mine who saw it dismissed it by saying that she's no writer, but she could have written a more original script. I think that sums it up well. It's the repetition that makes these kind of plots so tedious. One white messiah film ... ok. Several white messiah films ... um, any underlying issues at work here?
