movie recs sought

So, I recently got a Netflix account. Um, any favorite movies you think I should see? Don't assume I've seen stuff, as I really haven't been to the movies in quite a while.

So far, I've seen Water, Fire (Earth is in the queue), and Perfect Creature (vampire flick with Dougray Scott, yummm). I've got the following in the queue besides Earth: Stardust, the latest Harry Potter, La Vie En Rose, Notes on a Scandal, The Lives of Others, Talk to Her, Crash, Next, 8 1/2, Across the Universe, Things to do Before You're 30 (Dougray Scott again, and Billie Piper), and Anchoress, Existenz, and some Inspector Morse (all for Chris Eccleston).

Night Watch, and Day Watch (not sure if the second is on DVD yet). Russian vampire good-vs-evil flicks. Beautifully made.

I'll try to think of more :)

Sweeney Todd. But that's not out yet. But OMG BEST MOVIE EVAR.

ooh, vampire stuff! *squee*
I have mixed feelings about seeing Sweeney Todd -- having seen the musical, and really, really loving Sondheim. Not sure I want to see it reinterpreted as a movie. But I'll probably get to it eventually.

Thanks for the recs! Definitely check out Perfect Creature if you like vampire stuff -- this one is a little different than the usual story, more sci fi. The vampires are a result of a genetic advance, and live to serve humans as a kind of protective church. Spooky.

Sweetheart - it's JOHNNY DEPP, sounding a lot like David Bowie... YUM.

If that's your thing, of course ;)

And I'll have to check out Perfect Creature. Night/Day Watch (they're good books, too, and there's a third book, Twilight Watch) are also very different.

I just reviewed my Netflix history, and thought of some more :)

The Hudsucker Proxy.
City of Lost Children
Farewell my Concubine
Amilie
Night at the Museum was actually kinda sweet.
Black Snake Moan - wasn't as kinky as it looked, but was much more touching.
Paris is Burning - great docu about the drag culture in NYC and the origin of "Voguing"
Howl's moving castle
ConstantineTipping the Velvet - it's a short-run TV or miniseries, but sweet and gay.
Big Night
The Pillow Book
The House of Yes

Enjoy!

Constantine and Tipping the Velvet should be on separate lines...heh.

spoilers for Black Snake Moan

hey, thanks for this! lots to check out. I adored Black Snake Moan, actually -- it hit exactly my kink, which is more of the emotional part of D/s -- he took control, temporarilly, of her life, in order to help her heal. That big ass chains were involved was the cherry on top, so to speak. Having it NOT be sexual actually made a lot of sense to what their connection was about. I also loved that he handed her over to her boyfriend, with that little symbolic chain.

If Big Night is the Italian restaurant one, then I saw that one, too, but none of the others. Cool! stuff to explore!
