Very belatedly (what else is new?), {{{{thank you}}}} hon. You are, as always, too nice to me. I'm so sorry I hadn't written you back yet about your book! As usual, if I let things sit more than a day or two in my box, I get attacked by guilt and find it impossible to apologize adequately.

I'm so excited about your book, and I can't thank you enough for your generosity in offering to try and make me a part of it. The truth is that I'm both insanely busy and overcommitted right now, but worse, I'm flaky and unreliable on top of that. So even though I would love to do it and am touched beyond saying that you'd offer, I think it's only fair to you to say no, it wouldn't be a good idea. I'd hate to disappoint you in any way, and you and your work deserve the best, which is something I don't feel capable of promising right now.

Gah, there's no lameness in being busy. I would have loved your touch on this project but *completely* understand the "I just can't take on one more thing, not even one" state. Not to worry. Now if I can just get myself past the "I think I might have missed where a comma should go" stage of editing, and send the damn thing off... *smooches you*
