A few more things I remembered, in no particular order:

They said how the 13 ep arc makes the storytelling a lot tighter, how with 22 eps you can lose focus, but with 13 eps, you can do a novel.

Someone asked what it was like to do scenes with body parts, and also if they laugh while filming to break the tension of the subject matter. The actors said that the prosthetics were nothing, but sometimes they shoot with a live person pretending to be a corpse, and that is hard. "Harry" said that when he filmed a scene like that, a Dexter dream, where the "corpse" wakes up and he escorts her off the table, there was a solemnity to it -- and in that case, he didn't laugh. Michael C. Hall expressed sympathy for "Deb" having to be strapped to a table for hours for the shoot in the final episode.

The actor who plays the Japanese-American lab guy is a big improviser. The ep they showed had the line where he and Dexter are at the corpse that Rudy put back, and the guy says, "lets go... I'm hungry." This line got a laugh when they showed it. Michael C. Hall said, not only was "I'm hungry" adlibbed, he adlibbed a different line EVERY take, and "that was probably the only take where I didnt laugh".

And this, from a chat with Sandy, on whether Dexter is a true psychopath:

SKCMD: interesting mixes the genetic/experience question
SKCMD: is it genetics from dad/experience, or combo
ladydevo: the producers said his dilemma is, if the human feelings he's suppressed ever come back so that he has guilt, he wont be able to live with himself.
ladydevo: yes. very. he has both bad genes and terrible trauma.
SKCMD: i dont think these feels are simply suppressed but we'll see what they do.
ladydevo: can a psychopath have that kind of breakthrough of emotion?
SKCMD: i have trouble with the psychopath category---i kind of see it as more aspberger's---short on that part of the brain---psychopaths can't empathize and have no guilt but for him it is more profound--he does not understand emotion--even anger is kind of muted. whereas psychopaths can be pretty angry
ladydevo: true.
ladydevo: and he doesnt particularly enjoy manipulating people.
ladydevo: he does it to try to fit in.
ladydevo: and he does care for his sister, even if he doesnt recognize the feeling.
ladydevo: but what is the urge to kill? that's not from aspergers.
SKCMD: i think the urge to kill is identification with the agressor from his experience and to try to open up humans to understand the feelings---also adoptive father merged it with idea of justice/fairness which aspbergers people like
SKCMD: he cares for his sister but it is intellectual rather than pure feeling. he certainly is grateful to her father
ladydevo: ah. the rules, the code of harry. it gives him a set of guidelines to follow instead of being confused by human social rules.
SKCMD: he is not a sociopathic manipulator
ladydevo: right
SKCMD: right he needs rules.
SKCMD: he is an interesting mix
ladydevo: yeah. i love michael c. hall.
SKCMD: i am curious about the producers/writers/etc. why do you think they are doing this
ladydevo: they liked the books... i think they were curious about exploring "what is a human"... and all the shades of grey about him.
