I'm going to be doing 3 panels at Escapade that I proposed, and helping out on a 4rth. One Highlander, one Harry Potter, one Doctor Who, and a meta.

I'm pretty set on the HL one, and it looks like I have an enthusiastic and well-read HP person to co-lead for the HP one. Is anyone on my Flist interested in co-leading the Doctor Who one with me?

My idea was to look at the whole idea of slash pairings in Doctor Who -- Jack/Doctor being the obvious in the current series, but to look back at prior Doctors for slash potential as well. I read one pre-slash Doctor/Master fic -- I would be really curious if there is any more of that out there. A Teaspoon and an Open Mind, the Doctor Who fic archive, does not seem sortable by pairings. There is also a whole tradition of the Doctor (and Time Lords in general) being somewhat non- or asexual, though that was shaken up by the 8th and, obviously, 9th Doctors.

The universe of Doctor Who also has a lot of potential for crossovers, particularly with other universes of long-lived beings, such as Highlander or the various vampire 'verses. What might it be like for these various beings and the Doctor to encounter each other at unexpected points in time? With the Doctor's ability to move around in time, what might it be like to meet the Doctor earlier, but after an affair with him (which took place in the "future"? Can a love relationship survive a regeneration? And other questions for the Whovian curious.

On a more meta level, what is it like for old fans to have their fandom invaded by the Eccelstonian (and Tennantian) newbies? Do the new fans have any interest in the long history of this fandom, or are they connected mainly to the current mythology?

So, any takers? On either co-leading or passing on some fic recs? Many thanks in advance!

(I SO need a DW icon...)

Alas, the only recs I have might not be currently available online, and some of them I think are only in a zine.

For some reason, I never really read much of the new stuff. It'll be nice to have somebody separating the wheat from the chaff. :->

did you find any slash in the "old stuff"? If yes, what pairings?

Nothing much before 5 (which is good, because some of those would've squicked me *g*), and then it skipped to 8. Off the top of my head, I can remember 4,5,&8/Turlough, 5/Master (noncon), & 5/8. My favorite author also did a bunch of 5/Tegan, which were fantastic, and did feature the whole "love & regenerations" thang. They're not slash, but I'm ambi-fictionous. :->

I can't really talk to the meta, though, that's for sure. I used to watch 4 & 5 on PBS, but never discovered the actual fandom until after the movie came out. And then after a few years of gung-ho fandom, I fell out of it again and stayed on the fringes for the new stuff.

Wow. Blast from the past. The first things I ever wrote/filked were DW. :->
