Today's Grief

I keep thinking of hits, of
taking a hit,
first fear,
then elation, then the sucker-punch
of loss,
falling farther than the seam
they've dug,
and more black.
And the electric mad
possession,
feelings like
a god within,
dangerous and
cold.

I worry for their
electrolytes,
and for the ones who fainted,
and the ones whose trust
was skewered on a word.

There will be
some mad revenge:
like Oedipus,
with spikes for eyes
or a fever spiked
with grief

::nodding:: Yes. To have their hopes raised, and then dashed against the ground and its open chasms that now hold their grief. Yes. Cruelty. Where are the Kindly Ones when they should be called?

Ah, but be very careful when calling them ...

::nodding:: *Very* true. ::grins at you:: And it's so hard to find temples that know the right purification rites anymore.

More seriously, it's looking like that mine had dozens of violations over the five years it was open of the last seven consecutive years. Not at all good. I think it's likely that an investigation will find those deaths could and should have been prevented.
