Wow, it's a good thing he can laugh about it. I hope that helped him, at least a little, at the time.

I've only been afraid for my life a couple of times, and both were really brief, so I didn't get much reflection out of it. My appreciation for life does go up temporarily every time I lose someone, but it doesn't really last without conscious effort.
