health update

update on the labwork --

borderline white blood cells elevatation
sedimentation rate in the 80's (anything over 30 is elevated)

so, some evidence of infection, definite sign of inflammatory process going on.

not entirely clear what the cause is, if it's a crohn's flare, or a virus or something that then kindled crohn's symptoms, but the main point is i'm on the mend. went to work today, which may not have been the best idea -- had an awful headache, but then went to new acupuncturist and got a LOT of relief. unless i have a VERY good night's sleep tonight and wake up feeling a lot better, i'll probably stay home tomorrow.

getting a little bored by soft foods and soup, though. this is probably a good sign. *g*

poem: Ocarina

She felt at home the first time they met,
the comfortable thunder of its skies rumbling
into a place long forgotten in her soul.
Childhood. Across the field
from woods. The entry to the dark.
Dancing barefoot in the storm.

So different here, a desert place.
Yet she took to it, sensing before knowing
its histories of diaspora and invention,
the stars of secret Jewishness hiding
in the Madonna's cloak.

Luminarias were an invitation.
The pathway of light, on a journey
to some startling revelation.
Making magi of us all.

When her friends asked, "Why New Mexico?"
she tried to tell them about the sky, the light.
The earth unmasked. The honesty of it.

Then dust came, and rain, and smoke,
and light again.
Crows crossed a rising moon.
The lid of the sky grew larger still.
Wind played her house like an ocarina.

Angela Fiddler's "The Care and Feeding of Sex Demons"

Angela Fiddler, known to fandom as our own Barb G, has published a new ebook. :)

Whether you think this sort of thing is your cup of tea or not -- this book is a delight and worth stretching your categories. Sure there are demons, fae, explicit sex, plenty of snark, and an almost-apocalypse, but there's love, too, the kind of love that gets people through the rough spots and the everyday annoyances of real relationships. In spite of himself, Cy, the very slightly magical main character of this story, grows up a little. What better story could there be?

* and if you already know this IS your cup of tea, you are in for a treat! This story is equal parts moving, funny, and hot. Bonus -- it's part of a larger magical universe she's developing, which is coming together gorgeously. Go, read, enjoy!
