Went to the Santa Clara Pueblo Feast Day today. The Santa Clara Pueblo is an hour and a half north of Albuquerque, through gorgeous high desert and mountain terrain, set against a deep blue sky with huge, ever-changing clouds.
Today was the Corn Dance. Hundreds of dancers, men and women and tiny children, in beautiful garments -- embroidered, painted, feathered, danced in the hot sun for hours. It was breath-taking.
It made me wonder what it would be like to live in a community where so many of the people come together in a dance of prayer, sweat, singing, and sun. An arduous effort, all pulling together in spirit over the long day.
It was beautiful.
