Poetry reading went well Thursday night. I'm a bit beset now by self-critique -- "I read that too fast." "I should have looked up more." Gah. Note: do not view video of a performance immediately following said performance.
My friends enjoyed it/were kind. Take your pick. Probably some of both, and it's non-orthogonal in any case.
Sleeping, prior to the upcoming re-do of sleep study ( this time with cpap machine), has been mildly improved by a wacky device from this website: www.earthing.com. That's earthing, not earthling, an easy typo. Theory is that humans evolved to walk barefoot on the earth and to sleep on it much of the time, or at the very least not to be cut off, literally, from earth energies by rubber-soled shoes. And that the earth provides the properly charged electrons we need. The device, a bed-sheet you sleep on that has silver threads to it and that is hooked up to the ground port of your electrical outlet, gives a very, very subtle but definitely noticeable tingling sensation. Like being in a bath of a softly carbonated liquid. If you plant your feet sole-down on the sheet, after about 15 minutes the sensation reaches up to your knees, and progresses from there. It's very soothing. Supposed to reduce inflammation. So far, after 3 nights, I do feel a bit more rested.
Today's growers' market yielded some lovely carrots (the regular kind, and some purple ones), very sweet tiny yellow tomatoes, onions, garlic for both eating and planting, Fuji apples (fresh and dried), and sweet yellow and red bell peppers. And a quince!
I got parsnips last week, and am thinking of making a carrot/apple tsimmes with both kinds of carrots, apples, parsnips, and the quince. with cinnammon. Mmmmmmm.
That's my weekend so far! This evening, a local food fest, with dancing, and tomorrow I possibly have a date from match.com (details not yet finalized), and then a lecture by a Mayan shaman on the "real Mayan prophecies." I'm very, very curious to hear what he says, and how he views all the hype.
