First, go read brightfame's nu!Trek series, Cygnus Beta. (I don't know how to do the link, sorry! Just, she's on DreamWidth. brightfame. Go.) It's a series of stories about Vulcans on a new colony, and the other people on that colony, and has lots of layers and characters and a slowly evolving maybe-romance and definite friendship, and is just WONDERFUL.

Then, if you are so inclined, come back and read this, which is written for brightfame, with her prompt, "golden," in thanks for her delightful tale. Thanks to Rhi (on DW, she's Gryphonrhi on LJ) for help with associations and facts about "gold").

Golden

The mind is a golden vein
seamed in crumbling rock (also known as rotting quartz).

The golden mean becomes a kindness
as she learns to sip the echo of his smiles.

That Vulcan died,
that her heart was shorn of innocence by an conscienceless man,
that she tempts him to laughter
and other ruin,
that they ache,
that they find their way, slowly,
delicately, respectfully --
passion's slow but inexorable burn...

It's not the sun that blinds her,
nor the golden rays of impossibility
in an infinitely permutable and permissive landscape.

Light diffuses through suspended sand.
They dance, exquisitely slowly, an elegant
sarabande.
