I made it! I'm in my 3rd week of work, which has been a bit of a whirlwhind settling in to. My spare time is spent sleeping or house-hunting (I'm in a temporary rental). I don't have internet or tv at home yet, because the place I'm renting is in one company's region, and they don't transfer to the area I'd LIKE to live in, and only do 6 month contracts with big default penalties, blah blah blah. So I have some email access at work but no LJ, just when I come to dinner at the Flying Star Cafe (a local chain with good food and free wifi).

I am missing a lot of my shows, including Saving Grace, and Kings, which I have not seen at all. I can't really watch them at the cafe, but I do hope to catch up once I have access to the netz again in a serious way.

The air here is very, very dry. I'm adapting, taking oil baths for the most part and learning to drink water all day long. The sky is famously beautiful here -- always changing, always far more visible than I've ever been used to, living in cities on the coasts. I am renting a very LARGE house, and am hunting for a smaller but still spacious enough for guests one, preferably by the river (the Rio Grande), as it evokes for me the neighborhood I grew up in, a mile from the Delaware river.

My job is very promising, once I get past the mad whirl of all the things (systems, procedures, personalities, policies and politics) that I need to learn to do things well. But it's coming along. The grounds of where I work are really beautiful to walk around in -- the buildings were modeled, in the 1930's, on the Taos Pueblo, and the grounds are rife with prairie dogs and at least one rabbit I've seen. I've learned to not be too skittish about driving over their holes (with them sticking their heads up out of them) in the parking lot -- apparently they are well able to scoot out of the way in time.

That's it for now -- due to limited access, I may be slow in responding. But I'm here, and things are groovy. :)
