Like many others, I responded to the tsunami, Katrina, and Rita, with donations to the Red Cross. The Kashmir earthquake happened, and suddenly I wasn't feeling so forthcoming. The reasons were complex -- "compassion fatigue", a vague feeling of "hey isn't Pakistan a place that shelters terrorists" -- and so on. The following article by Salman Rushdie's examines some of these reactions and makes a plea for help for the people who are victims of the earthquake. Operative word being "people." Here are some links for donations:

It's a complex decision, no doubt about it -- thanks for listening.
