I had a dream last night that was so vivid, I can still see it. In it, there was a pen and ink drawing, in the style of Leonardo da Vinci's notebook drawings, with a main figure and scribbles and doodles on the side, drafts of other images... done on a kind of paper that we (Sandy, who was in the dream, and I) thought might be "vellum", but also might have been just a sheet of paper that had gotten weathered and beat up a bit.

The image was of an angel fucking Isaac on the altar of sacrifice. It was called: "Akeda", which is the Hebrew term for the binding of Isaac.

I must have this. Sadly, I lack the artistic skills to execute this design. Is there anyone who might be able to create this image for me? I would be happy to commission it for a fee.

(the dream previous to this part was amusing -- Sandy and I were at a conference, and I was sitting in on a session led by Bill Clinton, who was amiable and charming, and who made references to Chelsea -- I think it was his way of talking about the future, of saying, "I'd like to work to create a better world, I have a stake in doing that, because I want my daughter to have a good world to live in." At the end of his session I was debating edging out so I could catch the tail end of a friend's presentation in another room, but never made it out. Sandy showed up near the end of this one (she'd been in another session), and we debated what to do next. We decided on moving out of the convention space ,and ended up in an outdoor mall/flea market. "Shopping is good," she said. And that's where, amid cheap clothes, I found the drawing, on the wall of a shop, behind the counter. Sometimes you find what you need in the most unexpected places...)

Edited to add:
After the drama, Isaac wanders back to the altar. In a funk to understand what has just transpired, exhuasted from emotions and from his trip back up the mountain, he lays down on the altar again. And wakes to an angel standing over him. He scrambles back but the Angel steps between his legs, which are dangling over the stone altar, pinning him in place. "You wish for understanding?" the angel says. "Knowledge?"

Isaac, in a dream more lucid than he's ever known, answers "yes."

"Are you sure you're ready for it?" the angel asks again. "I'll give you knowledge," he says, not waiting for a reply. And turns Isaac onto his belly on the stones, and begins to deliver the Word.

So, Gryphonrhi and I are talking about how great is the Conner story, "Waylaid," by the incomparable Killa, and I comment on how one of the things I admire about Killa's writing is her respect for historicity. And Rhi says, "oh, it's worse than you think -- she actually researched how far back "paper, rock, scissors" goes to see if she could have the characters use it in the story."

To which I asked the next obvious question, "and how far DOES it go?" Rhi said she thought 7th Century at least, and I opined, "probably older than that. I bet the Egyptians and Babelonians had some version of it."

Which of course prompted the question, what would do for it, if you have stone tablets and not paper?

Herewith, one possible answer. Anyone got others? *grin*

Lizard eats bug.
Bug stings cow.
Cow stomps lizard.

Whee!
